Ellen Perry
Advocacy in Action LLC  - Thinking Outside the Box
Ellen is a self-determined individual who enjoys sharing what she has learned throughout her life. She provides an array of consulting services.

Ellen started consulting when the Human Services Institute in Oregon and the Developmental Disabilities Council in North Carolina (www.nccdd.org/) asked for her advice in establishing Peer Connections. Using a health and wellness grant, Peer Connections, pulled together self-advocates throughout the Research Triangle in North Carolina.

Ellen started the micro-enterprise, Advocacy in Action, LLC in 2008. As a business owner she consults with self-advocacy groups, state leaders, parks and recreation departments, and many more organizations that provide services for people with I/DD.

Ellen creates presentations for Lunch and Learn, a monthly meeting of self-advocates. She consults with local workshops, helping them get self-advocacy groups started for their workers.
Many people who face challenges associated with I/DD issues are referred to Ellen for guidance. Ellen has expertise in housing, transportation issues, SSI/SSDI issues, and health and wellness. When issues fall beyond Ellen's expertise, she is usually able to connect them with a resource that can provide assistance.

The 2015-2016 Chapel Hill/Orange County Access Guide Ellen worked on received a WOW Award from Destination Marketing Association International.
